Comrade Basudev Singh

 

The following is the press statement issued by the Bihar state committee on April 30, 2013

 

AT about 10.30 AM on April 30, the mortal remains of Comrade Basudev Singh reached Patna Airport from Delhi. At the airport chief minister of the state, the deputy chief minister, leaders of both the houses of Bihar legislature and leaders of all the political parties placed floral wreath and accompanied the carriage on its journey up to the legislative assembly and legislative council premises.

 

There again, all the assembled members of state legislature including chief minister, deputy chief minister, leaders of both the houses and leaders of all political parties including Sarvoday Sharma, state secretariat member of CPI(M)  placed floral wreath on the body of the octogenarian leader of CPI(M) Bihar state, popular leader of the teachers, ex-MLA and presently MLC since 16 years.

 

After that the heresy van reached CPI(M) state committee office at Jamal Road, Patna where along with the Party’s state committee and district committee leaders, eminent persons from all walks of life, who were waiting since 9.00 am in the morning, paid their last respects and placed floral wreaths on the body of their dear comrade Basudev Singh amidst slogans of ‘Long live Comrade Basudev Singh’ and ‘Comrade Basudev Singh tumhare armaanon ko manzil tak pahunchayenge’ (we shall strive to fulfill your dreams) etc.

 

Prominent among them were Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, ex-secretary, CPI(M) Bihar, Suneet Chopra, Central Committee member of CPI(M),  Alokdhanwa, eminent Hindi Poet, Kunal, secretary, CPI(ML), Bihar, MK Pathak from SUCI, Ramji Singh, renowned Sarvodayi leader, B Prasad, general secretary, Bank Employees Federation, Bihar, Arun Kumar Sinha, general secretary, United Democratic Teachers Forum, Shreekant Mishra, general secretary, EC Zone Insurance Employees Association and others.

 

There after the heresy van moved to nearby Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh Bhavan where Comrade Basudev Singh used to stay when in Patna. His body will be taken afterwards to Begusarai and his last rites will be done at Simariaghat.

 

MESSAGE FROM

PRAKASH KARAT

 

The following is the text of the message from Prakash Karat, general secretary of the CPI(M) to the Bihar state committee sent on April 30, 2013

 

I am deeply grieved to hear the news of the death of Comrade Basudev Singh at the AIIMS hospital. Comrade Basudev Singh was a dedicated communist and an intrepid fighter for people’s rights throughout his life. He served the Party and the people as a legislator. 

 

In his death the Party has suffered a big loss. I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family members.
