AIKS Foundation Day Observed

ON April 11, 2013, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) observed its 77th foundation day at 4 Ashoka Road, New Delhi, in the presence of a number of activists along with AIKS president S R Pillai, its general secretary K Varadarajan and other AIKS office bearers working at its central office.

S R Pillai hoisted the flag on the occasion and spoke about the glorious struggles the Indian peasantry had waged against feudal exploitation during the British colonial regime, and also for freedom and independence of the country. He also underlined how during the last 66 years after independence the peasants have continued to fight against the wrong, pro-landlord and anti-farmer policies of the successive central governments and by non-Left state governments led by the Congress, BJP or a host of regional parties. As a result of all this, big and powerful capitalists --- both domestic and foreign --- have penetrated into our rural economy, leading to pauperisation of the peasantry.

Hannan Mollah, joint secretary of the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) and a member of the Central Kisan Committee of the AIKS also spoke on the occasion. Others who participated in this ceremony included AIKS finance secretary Noorul Huda, its joint secretary N K Shukla and others.
