CPI(M) Greets Tudeh Party of Iran on its Sixth Congress

The following is the text of the greetings sent by the Central Committee of the CPI(M) to the Central Committee of the Tudeh party of Iran on its Sixth Congress. The greetings were sent on February 1, 2013.

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) extends its heartfelt greetings to the Sixth Congress of the Tudeh Party of Iran. On this occasion, we greet the leadership and all members of the Party and reiterate our heartfelt solidarity.

Comrades,

Your Congress is taking place at a very critical period. Experts are predicting that the world is on the verge of a double-dip recession. All the attempts of the ruling classes to come out of the crisis have proved futile. What had started as corporate insolvency has now become sovereign insolvency. Many countries had introduced 'austerity' measures to come out of their sovereign insolvency. 'Austerity' measures, with their added burdens on the working class and common people, in reality had further reduced their purchasing power. This in itself is the direct outcome of the basic contradiction in the capitalist system – between the social nature of production and the individual nature of profit maximisation – the real reason for the crisis. However hard they try, without a resolution of this basic contradiction, all their attempts are bound to fail. This contradiction can be resolved only in a socialist society.

Ruling classes employ all the means at their disposal – economic, political and military – to wriggle out of the economic crisis. Imperialist military intervention in Libya, Syria and now Mali are a reflection of these attempts. Imperialism, especially during the periods of economic crisis, aggressively desires to control all the regions that are rich in natural resources and markets. And as we all know, West Asia, or what is popularly referred to as Middle East is a region rich in natural resources. To ensure its hegemony over the region, it is up to all sorts of machinations. Promoting religious fundamentalist forces, terrorist groups and other reactionary elements is a part of their evil design in order to rein in the growth of the communist and other progressive forces.

The US led imperialist forces have imposed inhuman sanctions on Iran on the pretext of ensuring that it doesn't develop nuclear weapons. As always, the sanctions are causing immense hardships to the people of Iran rather than the ruling classes. In today's world situation, the struggle carried out against such nefarious designs acquires even more importance.

Comrades,

The CPI(M) too is very much in the fight resisting the onslaught of the ruling classes on the livelihoods of the people of India. We are not only involved in the fight against this economic onslaught but are also resisting the attempts to divide our people on the lines of religion, region, ethnicity and nationality.

Comrades,

Carrying on the traditions of Marxism-Leninism, the Tudeh Party is steadfastly fighting for the rights of the Iranian people. The Party played an exemplary role in the fight against imperialism and against all forms of reaction in the society. It is to the credit of the party that in spite of the brutal killing of many leaders, thousands of its members and declared illegal, the Party still continues to work among the people of Iran. It is this unbowing, courageous attitude of the TPI that inspires the world communists. We are confident that the Tudeh Party of Iran will live up to the high expectations among the people of Iran and resist all the efforts of the ruling classes and imperialism.

On this historic occasion of the Sixth Congress of the Tudeh Party of Iran, we once again reiterate our solidarity and affirm that the CPI(M) will stand shoulder-to-shoulder in its struggle against imperialism and for a society free from exploitation.
