Food Security Day Observed in Jharkhand

AT the call of the Left parties for observance of Food Security Day on September 12, demonstrations, dharnas and picketings were organised in front of block offices as well as godowns of the Food Corporation of India and State Food Corporation in different districts of Jharkhand.

The places where protest actions were organised included Santhal Parganas, Sahebganj, Godda, Pakur, Dumka, Jamtara, Thakurganj, Deoghar, Madhupur,  Mohanpur, Mahagama, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Gumla, Hazaribag, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Bahragora, Ghatshila, Patamda, Gamharia, Koderma and Chatra. These programmes were followed by submission of memoranda.

In the state capital, Ranchi, there was picketing for two hours at the main gate of State Food Corporation godown. It was led by the CPI(M) state secretary G K Bakshi, state secretariat member Rajendra Singh Munda (ex-MLA), Ranchi district committee secretary Suphal Mahto, Sanjay Siddharth, Rangowati Devi, Subhash Munda, Amit roy, R P Singh, Manju Munda, Beena Linda and Birendra Kumar. 

A memorandum was sent to the prime minister through proper channels. More than 10,000 people participated in the programmes in different districts.
