Shaheed Bhagat Singh Bhawan Inaugurated

 

 

THE Democratic Youth Federation of India’s new central office, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Bhawan was inaugurated by Manik Sarkar, chief minister of Tripura who is one of the founder leaders of the organisation, at New Delhi on November 10, 2011. The central executive committee of the DYFI organised a public function on this occasion in which apart from Manik Sarkar and Sitaram Yechury, MP who was the guest of honour, former leaders of DYFI Hannan Mollah, E P Jayrajan, M A Baby, Md Salim, Suneet Chopra, N N Krishnadas, and K N Balagopal, SFI former general secretary Nilotpal Basu, leaders of other mass organisations - CITU all India president  A K Padmanabhan, AIAWU general secretary A Vijayaraghavan, AIDWA general secretary Sudha Sundararaman, SFI all India president P K Biju, MP and AIKS joint secretary Vijoo Krishnan were present on the dais as special guests. From other Left youth organisations-AIYL secretary Amrish Kumar and RYF joint secretary Anjan Mukherjee were also present. DYFI all India president P Sreeramakrishnan presided over the inauguration function attended by hundreds of youth and people from the locality.

 

Speaking on this occasion, Manik Sarkar while paying his tributes to the legendary martyr of our freedom struggle Bhagat Singh said that it was an appropriate and wise decision taken by the DYFI that the organisation office was named after and dedicated to Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He explained in detail about the burning issues of unemployment faced by the youth in our country today and placed a sharp criticism of the Congress led UPA-2 government at the centre for its inability to create job opportunities for crores of unemployed youth in the country. Manik Sarkar said that Manmohan Singh government’s policies are anti-youth policies and that is why lakhs of posts are lying vacant in government departments alone. He said the government’s policy is to abolish such posts after keeping them vacant for some time. He also spoke about the crisis in agriculture and raised the issue of radical land reforms. Manik Sarkar called upon the youth to unite and fight against the policies responsible for increasing inequality where the mass of the youth of our country have no future prospects. He expressed hope that the DYFI’s new central office-Shaheed Bhagat Singh Bhawan will definitely serve its purpose as a centre of youth mobilisation to build a powerful democratic youth movement in our country.

  

Speaking on the occasion, Sitaram Yechury explained about the present economic crisis and the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement against the capitalist globalisation and urged upon the youth to campaign against the neo-liberal anti-youth, anti-people policies. Sitaram Yechury raised the issues of corruption and price rise and said that youth, who constitute an overwhelming majority of our people, are the biggest sufferers of the neo-liberal onslaught. He expressed sincere thanks to all those, particularly the local people, who have extended their help in this important task of building the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Bhawan in New Delhi.

 

BHAGAT SINGH’S

STATUE UNVEILED

 On this occasion a statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh was also unveiled. DYFI general secretary Tapan Singh unveiled the statue. Manik Sarkar and Sitaram Yechury offered floral tributes by garlanding the statue. P Sreeramakrishnan hoisted the DYFI flag a top of the building.
