DYFI:  Save Sports, Prevent Corruption

The central executive committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has issued the following statement on September 3

IN the background of rampant corruption and total mismanagement in the Common Wealth Games scheduled to be held in October 2010, at New Delhi, the DYFI CEC while expressing its serious concern not only over the massive corruption but also over the pathetic condition of sports in our country has given a call for undertaking a nationwide campaign. Despite the startling revelations of corruption at various levels, what is shocking is the way the government is trying to cover up the whole issue in the name of country’s prestige. Despite the serious disclosures, the president of the CWG organising committee, Suresh Kalmadi is still at the helm enjoying the confidence of the prime minister and of Sonia Gandhi.

The DYFI has decided to register its strong protest by organising state level demonstrations, meetings, seminars, conventions etc by raising the slogan ‘save sports, prevent corruption’ on September 5 2010. In these programmes apart from the youth, sports personalities, journalists, intellectuals and others will be invited to take part.
