32nd AIKS Conference

in Guntur, AP, from Jan 07-10

THE 32nd All India Conference of the All India Kisan Sabha is being held in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, from January 07-10, 2010. Despite the ongoing agitation for separate state of Telangana and till recently for a unified state in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, it has been decided to hold this important conference as per schedule. Preparations for successfully holding this conference are going on in full swing, with AP Rytu Sangham leaders fully involved.

Around 1000 delegates from all parts of the country would be attending the conference as delegates and discussing the present crisis in agriculture and the ways to fight for improving the situation for farmers and peasants. As is known, the country is witnessing a serious agrarian crisis which has already resulted in around 1,60,000 farmer suicides nationwide and around 10,000 suicides in Andhra Pradesh so far. The neo-liberal policies being aggressively pursued by the UPA government are resulting in a serious compromise of national food security. The MNCs are brazenly looting the farmers of our country. The Bt Brinjal issue is one example. Large scale acquisition of farm land in the name of SEZs and other projects is another issue. All these issues would be gone into in depth and future course decided in the conference.

The delegates session venue is being rechristened as Harkishan Singh Surjeet Nagar. Arrangements for dining and stay of the delegates is being supervised by the reception committee. A media centre with all facilities for transmission of news, including for electronic media, is being readied near the venue. A temporary office of the AIKS centre would function from the venue during the course of the conference. A health centre to cater to the needs of the delegates would also function from the venue during the conference. A cultural festival is being organised by Praja Natya Mandali on this occasion from January 5 itself at a separate venue. A seperate exhibition would be inaugurated on January 6 depicting various aspects relating to agricultural sector. This is being named after late Mallu Venkata Narsimha Reddy.

On the concluding day of the conference, January 10, a huge public rally would be organised which would be addressed by top leaders of the AIKS. Intense campaign is on to mobilise people of Guntur district in large numbers for this rally. Jeep jathas are being taken out from different parts of the state in campaign of the all India conference of AIKS.
