Statewide Demos By All TUs On November 21

ALL Trade Union in the state have decided to stage demonstrations all over the state on November 21, 2008 against the curtailment of labour rights, lay-offs, wage cut, etc. A. Soundararajan, state general secretary, CITU and S S Thiagarajan, state general secretary, AITUC have issued a joint statement.

Citing the economic crisis, the industries have resorted to reduction in manpower, lay off and wage cut. Joint Action Committee of All Trade Unions has given a call for massive participation in the demonstrations. The sponsoring committee that includes AITUC, CITU, HMS, AICCTU, AIUTUC, Central-State Government Employees, Bank, LIC, Telecommunications and Defence sector has given this call.

The demonstration will be staged at all district headquarters and industrial centres. Economic crisis has hit the big, medium and small industries, export oriented units and the service sector has also been affected. Thousands of labourers are affected due to this crisis and the sufferings are likely to increase.

As far as the central government is concerned, they are going ahead with their old agenda. The decision of raising the FDI limit in insurance sector is a pointer towards this. To urge the government to change its policies, all trade unions should make this demonstration a grand success by making their members participate in that the statement urged. (INN)
