Comrade Inderjeet Singh Succumbs To Injuries

 

 

COMRADE Inderjeet Singh Bhagrana, CPI(M) Punjab state committee member and Patiala district secretary died on April 22. He was admitted in government hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh after a brutal attack on April 4, 2007 near his village by seven goonda elements led by Shamsher Singh Lala, an absconder who was undergoing 10 years jail in a rape case of a dalit girl. Comrade Inderjeet had helped the victim dalit girl and her parents and played a crucial role in getting the culprit Lala punished with a sentence of 10 years jail term. 

 

Comrade Inderjeet leaves behind his wife, two daughters and one son. The cremation was held on April 23 in his village Bhagrana.

 

Comrade Inderjeet Singh joined Student’s Federation of India (SFI) in 1972. He later joined Punjab Kisan Sabha and CPI(M). He rose to the become senior vice president of Punjab Kisan Sabha and state committee member of CPI(M) and district secretary of the Party at a very young age. He fought valiantly against extremists in defence of unity and integrity of India. He was a very courageous and committed communist. He was put in jail many times while actively leading various struggles of the peasants and other toiling people. He was elected village sarpanch for two terms. CPI(M) has sustained an irreparable loss with the murder of Comrade Inderjeet.

 

Comrade Prakash Karat, general secretary of CPI(M) has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the Punjab unit of CPI(M).

 

Comrade Balwant Singh, state secretary and other state secretariat members Charan Singh Virdi, Lehmbar Singh Taggar, Rachhpal Singh, Raghunath Singh and Vijay Misra has condoled the death of Comrade Inderjeet and sent their heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family. (INN)
