CP Greece Study Team Meets CPI(M) Leadership

A FIVE member delegation of the Communist Party of Greece arrived in New Delhi on March 16, 2007 as part of its 13-day long study visit to India. The delegation led by Eleni Mpellou, member of the PB in charge with ideological questions related to economy is touring the country at the invitation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Comrade Prakash Karat. 

 

The Greece delegation held discussions with CPI(M) leadership at A K Gopalan Bhavan on March 16. Apart from Prakash Karat, Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury, central secretariat members Nilotpal Basu and Hari Singh Kang represented the CPI(M). The two sides exchanged views on various issues pertaining to international communist movement as also on the general international situation.

 

The Greek delegation included Elisseos Vagenas, CC member and member of the international section, Gerassimos Papadopoulos, head of the CC’s section for economics, Vassilis Opsimos, member of the CC’s ideological commission and Kostas Papadakis, international secretary of the Communist Youth of Greece.

 

Later the editorial staff of the Party central organs, People’s Democracy and Lok Lahar met with the delegation and exchanged notes on issues relating to Party publications and dissemination of ideology.

 

Among the programmes slated for the delegation in Delhi include discussions with Communist Party of India leadership, leadership of mass organisations –– CITU, All India Kisan Sabha and All India Agricultural Workers Union, All India Democratic Women’s Association and Democratic Youth Federation of India. 

 

The Greece delegation will be visiting Bengal for a week from March 19 to study and see first hand the kind of work being done by the Left Front government, particularly in the field of Panchayat Raj. (INN)
