CPI(M) CC Units Collect Flood Relief Fund

PARTY members of the central committee units undertook a two-hour public fund collection drive on August 26, 2006 to collect money for relief and rehabilitation of flood-affected people of various states. Hundreds of people have lost their lives and assets in severe floods affecting Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

Around 40 comrades working in the CC office and central offices of mass organisations gathered at A K Gopalan Bhavan in the afternoon and embarked on this drive in the vicinity of the office. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury flagged off the fund collection drive by being the first donor.

The response from general public and traders was generous and a total amount of Rs 6414 was collected in the short time of two hours that too in a short area. And many members who participated in the fund collection drive were enthused by the response to the Party appeal.

CPI(M) central secretariat member V Sreenivasa Rao, who participated in the drive, thanked the members for their effort and said the aim behind this exercise apart from collecting the fund was also to reach out to people in the vicinity of the CC office.
