CPI(M) Call: Defeat Murli Manohar, Carry On Struggles

THE CPI(M) District Organising committee of Allahabad has been conducting a strenuous campaign to defeat the Human Resource Development Minister, Murli Manohar Joshi and supporting the S P candidate Rewati Raman Singh. The campaign in Allhabad city has already put the BJP on the defensive but it is from the rural areas that the defeat of Joshi will be ensured, especially from Karchana and Meja Assembly constituencies.

The support of the CPI(M) us significant as the MLA from Meja, Ram Kirpal, has been elected twice in a row defeating the BSP whose seat it was before. Therefore, the success of the rally in Koraon on the last day of the campaign 3 May, was important also because the CPI(M) has had to expel Hari Ram Pandey, former district committee member, for having agreed to the unanimous decision to support the SP candidate and then supporting the BSP. It is to be noted that the BSP has consistently been trying to woo the CPI(M) MLA from Meja, offering him a ministerial post, which he rejected firmly, making his rejection public.

Addressing the rally, CPI(M) central committee member, Suneet Chopra asked the thousands of Adivasis gathered at Koraon to defeat the BJP if they are to ensure their lands will not be seized by corporates, if they do not wish to face starvation and joblessness, and if they wanted social justice. He assured then that the CPI(M) and its mass organisations that had constantly protected their interests would continue to do so even after the election and ensure their demands would be conceded . He warned the gathering that they must prepared to ensure that no rigging takes place and to be vigilant against all sorts of tricks that can be resorted to with EVM machines.

He assured them that the demand for the Kol tribe to be gives scheduled tribe status in UP as it already has it in MP will be fought for and won, because it was a just one. He pointed out that the elections will see the defeat of the BJP and an increase in the number of left MP’s which would improve the possibility of a stable alternative government emerging at the centre and appealed for full strength of the CPI(M) to come forward to defeat Murli Manohar Joshi and ensure the victory of the SP candidate.

The DOC secretary, and CPI(M) state secretariat  member, Ambika Mishra told the gathering that CPI(M) was a disciplined force and no one, however powerful he may think he is, can affect the implementation of the CPI(M) line. There was resounding applause when the announced the expulsion of Hari Ram Pandey and called to ensure the victory of Rewati Raman Singh. Addressing the Rally, CPI(M) MLA Ram Kirpal, assured the people he would continue to serve their interests is he had consistently done and appealed to the gathering to defeat the BJP in Allahabad and assure the victory of the SP there, while assuring the people that the struggles for their rights would continue even after the elections as they had before.

The meeting was presided over by DYFI leader Girijesh Pandey, Hari Ram’s nephew, and was addressed by CPI(M) state secretariat member, Prem Nath Rai, CPI(M) state committee member, Sudhir Kumar Singh, SP leader Gama Pandey and CPI(M) election in charge, Harish Chand Dwivedi, among others.

The local Jana Natya Manch presented a puppet performance and play. The large turn out was a challenge to the BJP’s tactics of trying to win by hook or by crook.
