CPI(M) Stages Dharna Against Gujarat Violence

ACTIVISTS of the CPI(M)’s Jammu regional unit held a demonstration and staged a day long dharna in front of the divisional commissioner’s office to protest against the Gujarat carnage and demand immediate dismissal of the chief minister Narinder Modi. The participants also raised slogans against the BJP-led NDA government.

The dharna was led by the CPI(M)’s J&K state committee member Kishore who, while addressing the dharna, said it is imperative that Narendra Modi be removed from chief ministership if there is to be any restoration of normalcy and the administration’s credibility in the state. Nothing less will assure the people of India that the rule of law would prevail in Gujarat, he added.

Charging the state administration with shocking connivance with rampaing gangs, Kishore said the constitution has been trampled upon. The administration is totally biased against citizens belonging to the minority community. Kishore also accused the Vajpayee government of doing nothing to check the brazen violation of the constitution and the rule of law. The BJP rather defended the indefensible role of the chief minister. Demanding firm steps to stop violence in the state, Kishore further said the CPI(M) felt concerned over the BJP government’s apathy and sectarian attitude in handling the situation.

The others to address the dharna included K K Bakshi, Raju Satia, Mandev Singh, Ravi Mehra, Mohan Lal, Bickle, Subhash Mehra, Jumma Ram and Jaimbal Chowdhary.
