CPI(M) Worker Killed In Bankura

TRINAMUL Congress goons assaulted and killed a CPI(M) worker and a popular leader of the refugee rehabilitation movement, Comrade Biren Roy, at Barjora in Bankura on April 5. The assassin was caught red-handed by the local people when he tried but failed to break free from the dying Comrade Biren’s steel grip even after he had been fatally wounded with close-in shots from the attacker’s country-made handgun.

The Trinamul Congress gangsters had begun to conspire against Comrade Biren right from the time he proved instrumental in provision of electric connections to three remote villages near the township of Barjora some months back. They had come to the conclusion that if such initiatives were allowed to continued, it would quickly finish off whatever little chances the Trinamul Congress had to wrest the villages from the Left Front in the panchayat polls.

Comrade Roy, the local people told INN, had earlier been assaulted on March 22. Atr that time, he escaped the attack only because he had just left his humble abode when a dozen-odd Trinamul Congress strongmen came, and bombed and ransacked his place. The second attack on April 5, however, proved fatal. The police have posted a small picket near Comrade Biren’s hutment and have managed to arrest five persons on the charge of conspiracy to commit murder. (INN)
